Paper Prototyping in a Flood
Taking a boat over formerly dry streets to reach farmers' houses
Based on our field research we knew farmers wanted highly localized weather forecasts and information about better farming techniques. From our initial concepts, we've determined our MVP: a service delivering a hyperlocal weather forecast along with a library of crop specific articles about best agricultural practices. We spent some time in the field with farmers sharing a paper prototype to assess the information design and perceived value of the service. We've decided to pilot in the Dry Zone so we focused on farmers in that area. Ironically the river in the Dry Zone had overflowed due to torrential rain so we had to navigate normally dry roads by boat. It's an annual flood that they've come to expect. The houses are two stories, so families just move up to the second story when the water rises.
